Nationwide spending data, which is created from Nationwide clients debit and credit card transactions, has shown an increase of 49% in spending in February 2025 in comparison to February 2021.

What Are They Spending On?

Nationwide identified three key areas where consumers have been increasing their spending:

  • (#1) Holidays
  • (#2) Travel
  • (#3) Leisure

The figures also indicate a decline in spending across dating services, DIY purchases, and general retail.

Nationwide is the UK’s largest building society, boasting over 17 million customers, with £1 in every £10 saved in the UK held with them.

From a countrywide perspective, UK consumer spending has increased from £373 billion in Q1 2020 to £389 billion.
